Fertilising a Thymus serpyllum
This species thrives with minimal intervention, however, a springtime application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer can promote vigorous growth and enhance the aromatic foliage. Aim to fertilize early in the growing season, as new growth appears, to support the development of the lush, green mat and the subsequent summer bloom. Ensure that fertilizer is applied to the soil around the plants, rather than directly on the foliage, to avoid burning the delicate leaves. Water the area well after fertilizing, especially if the weather forecast does not indicate rain, to help the nutrients penetrate the soil and reach the roots. The low maintenance nature of Thymus serpyllum means it does not require frequent feeding; once a year should suffice for this hardy, evergreen groundcover.
